Woe betide…

After our discussion on this rather peculiar expression earlier (thanks Anand!) I looked up the proper definition in the dictionary.

Woe betide: A warning that you may suffer a terrible misfortune because of your bad behaviour.

For example: Woe betide any child who forgets to use capitals when they write proper nouns!

This expression comes from Ye Olde English and I found an article stating that it was used as far back as 1393, which means it has been around for 621 years!
